Fatal Motorcycle Crash Occurs on East Lincolnway

On Sunday, September 15 at approximately 11:25 p.m. Cheyenne Police Officers were dispatched to an accident involving a motorcycle near the intersection of East Lincolnway and Nationway.

The rider, an 18-year-old male, died on scene. The Laramie County Coroner’s Office will identify the victim and notify the next of kin.

Preliminary details show the crash occurred as two motorcyclists were traveling along East Lincolnway – an officer in the area observed both traveling at a high rate of speed. As one rider approached a turn, he lost control and collided with a building. A fire erupted as a result of the crash, prompting additional rescue response from Cheyenne Fire Rescue.

The other bike rider, David Rutherford, 23, of Cheyenne, was not injured and remained on scene. He was issued citations for careless driving and driving without a motorcycle endorsement.

Due to the severity of the crash, the Cheyenne Police Department’s Major Crash Unit responded to take over the investigation.
