A shoplifting spree halted by quick-acting officers resulted in the arrest of two individuals. The incident unfolded when officers recognized the suspects outside of a local retailer. Over $10,000 in merchandise was found to be stolen.

On Wednesday, March 5, Cheyenne Police Officers were dispatched to a report of a shoplifting at Ulta Beauty located at 1400 Dell Range Boulevard. A man and woman reportedly entered the store, stole merchandise, and ran out without paying. They drove away in a white Ford Fusion with blue wheels.

At the same time, Cheyenne Police Crime Prevention Team Officers were conducting shoplifting enforcement at Target, 1708 Dell Range Boulevard, when they observed a vehicle matching the description pull into the parking lot. The 25-year-old woman, Johanna Gutierrez, and 31-year-old man Raul Rojas, both from Greeley, Colorado, exited their vehicle and walked into the store.

Officers recognized the vehicle and arrested Rojas and Gutierrez without incident. They were booked into the Laramie County Jail on a felony theft charge. Further investigation revealed that the couple was responsible for at least three other felony shoplifting incidents in town. Additional charges are pending. The stolen merchandise was recovered and will be returned to Ulta.

Officers later learned that Gutierrez is an undocumented immigrant – U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) placed a detainer on Gutierrez after confirming her status.
